To paraphrase Billy Idol, it was a nice day for a fake wedding.

While Katie has been out and about finding hidden treasures around Korea I have been up to something slightly more bizarre. Yesterday I followed my friend Amy around Toronto while she and a cast of characters posed for wedding photos with (sometimes less than) willing members of the public.

Take note: Amy did not actually get married.

All of this buffoonery was in the name of shameless promotion for wedding-themed programming on Slice. You don't watch? You should. I'm not even going to try and pretend that Rich Bride, Poor Bride isn't one of my guilty indulgences every once in a while. So, I invited myself to tag along on this hilarious outing to snap shots for my photography class and more importantly, for my own amusement. There is nothing like crazed people in costume making a scene in Yonge and Dundas square. My favourite part might have been when well intentioned Chinese business men posed for photos with the 'happy couple' and then gifted the entire wedding party with carefully wrapped "presents from China." Did they just have these on hand in case they bumped into a newly married pair on the street?

Amy and her fuchsia clad bridal party will be running around the city handing out bubbles and embarrassing themselves wholeheartedly for the next seven days. Let me know if you spot them!

The Carrie Diaries

The 14-year old gossip girl inside of me is very excited for the upcoming Sex and the City prequel by chick-lit queen Candace Bushnell. The Carrie Diaries will chronicle everyone's favourite chain-smoking corsage wearing sex columnist during her awkward teenage years. Carrie's high school fashion escapades and romantic entanglements come to a bookshelf near you at the end of April. Highly anticipated? Abso-fucking-lutely.

It's no secret that I think How I Met Your Mother is probably the funniest (and most underrated) television show that I have encountered in my twentysomethings (my loyalty of course being to Friends during those oh-so-awkward teenage years). If I tallied up the excessive number of hours i've accumulated in front of this sit-com I probably could have written about 3 short novels, but I'm not even mad about it. Because it's that awesome. Anyways, tonight marks the legendary 100th episode of the best half hour of my week and just like the previous 99 gems, it promises laugh out loud hilarity throughout. Entitled Girls vs. Suits, the episode boasts impressive guest stars like Rachel Bilson and Tim Gunn (Katie how hard is your heart palpitating?) and a full-blown musical number featuring the entire cast - who have graciously agreed to suit up in honour of the milestone. If tonight's singing and dancing is even half as funny as this then it's gonna be...wait for it...

Really?

Okay so I'll admit it, I do kind of love Lauren Conrad and yes The Hills hasn't been the same without her but really LC...you're going to publish a Style Guide? If the book is anything like her clothing line it's sure to be bland and overpriced.

The little piece had me 'Smize'-ing at my desk all morning.

At the end of this week's episode of The City (I know, I know), Whitney and super annoying new gal pal Roxy (I miss Erin!) were obnoxiously yammering on about boys at People's Revolution (for shame). However, this was all fine and dandy with me, as I was too distracted by Whitney's gorgeously out of this world top - so amazing. For those of you who, too, were starry-eyed over the look, you can find a bevy of galaxy pieces over here, at Assembly New York. Sadly, the price tags are waaay out of my range - thankfully Zara offers up a reasonable alternative - I hope the Korean stores have it.

I just saw this picture on WAXIN' AND MILKIN', an immensely visually stimulating blog chock full of inspiring/quirky pictures. The caption paired with this particular photo of Mr. and Mrs. Don Draper? "I didn’t know lastnightsparty/thecobrasnake was around in the 50’s…. " Amazing. Mainly because I love a good party photo, but also because I've just recently started watching Mad Men - and coincidentally just saw the episode that produced this lovely picture. Oh, Don Draper, you party animal, you.

boy, oh boy

Although he's been in some of the best movies (Hotel Chevalier, The Darjeeling Limited, Rushmore, I Heart Huckabees, Marie Antoinette and Shopgirl), I've never really had a thing for Jason Schwartzman. However, after spending some more time with him, (once a week to be exact, during his charismatic/hilarious foray into private detective work on Bored To Death) I have to say that I think he's pretty damn cool (and he's Sofia Coppola's cousin!). I'm a bit late to the party with this guy , but better late than never. I kind of love how Schwartzman has gone undercover in this latest Lookbook from Band of Outsiders - I adore these polariod shots (and the clothes in them!) - he looks so cute and goofy while running around Chinatown.

P.S. He also has a really cute project called Coconut Records, where he sings and plays all of the instruments (Bored to Death's theme song is written and sung by Schwartzman). Let's just forget about his part in a previous TV show theme song.

Oh my gosh, Blossom's available on DVD! If you've never watched this '90s gem, then here's your chance to get to know Blossom Russo, one of the most fashion-forward teenagers in television history. Not to mention that her best friend, the fast-talking Six, is one of my most favourite sidekicks of all time (in part because growing up I was often compared to Blossom's besty for her tendency to ramble on at an almost incoherent pace). I just watched an episode (for the first time in probably over ten years) and it was filled with pure '90s fashion eye candy: oversized sweaters, Doc Martens, polka dots, leggings, cool hats (minus the daisy), denim on denim, crazy patterns, acid wash minis with fringe, and so on. Capitalizing on Blossom's true hipster fashion, American Apparel is selling the first two seasons on their website. In 'my opinionation' both should definitely have a place in anyone's DVD collection (especially since included is a featurette devoted to the show's inspiring fashion).

bored to death

Jonathan Ames, a young Brooklyn writer, is feeling lost. He's just gone through a painful break-up, thanks in part to his drinking, can't write his second novel, and carouses too much with his magazine editor. Rather than face reality, Jonathan turns instead to his fantasies — moonlighting as a private detective — because he wants to be a hero and a man of action.

I just watched the premiere of HBO's Bored to Death, which stars the always quirky Jason Schwartzman as an alcoholic writer (an alcoholic writer who only drinks white wine!!!) living in Brooklyn, who refuses to face reality (as so many of us often do). Also, the girl who has just left him is played by Olivia Thirlby, who I think is just lovely (and she has the best hair - I hope I can admire it in at least one more episode). The show is both smart and funny - I will definitely be tuning in next week (especially since Gossip Girl's gone to shit). Thank goodness for HBO.

I have always loved keys. I think they have a magical quality to them, which probably has something to do with my childhood love for this book. Ever since then i've received and collected keys of all shapes and sizes. I love to hang rusty antique keys on my walls and a shimmery Tiffany key around my neck. So i'm absolutely pleased as rum punch to see my fave gossip girl strutting around in her own Fleur de Lis key, especially in a matching Tiffany Blue ensemble. I guess I'm not the only one loving these vintage inspired pretty pendants.

Being a working woman again really makes me appreciate when the weekend rolls around. I only wish I wasn't halfway around the world from my friends! Aren't girlfriends the best? Miss you all xo

Girl Crush: Alexa Chung

The obvious reason to buy the September issue of Marie Claire this month was the cover story with 1/2 of the dynamic design duo behind Elizabeth and James and The Row. But as if a luxurious spread with Ashely Olsen lounging in vintage lingerie (more on that here) wasn't enough, I was also treated to a few pages of buzz worthy it girl Alexa Chung posing pretty in some very desirable fall fashions.


While I have yet to see this brit beauty's MTV show It's On with Alexa Chung (the show only airs stateside) i've been stalking her personal style on WWWD for a while now. Her eclectic fashion choices and "oh i just threw this on" ensembles demonstrate that this former model is definitely in the know when it comes to style without ever trying too hard. Perhaps i'm girl crushing so hard because her distinctive and quirky outfits have a London chic vibe that makes me nostalgic for the UK and reminisce about fashion forward high street offerings across the pond.


Whether she's grabbing coffee, stomping around a muddy festival or sauntering down a red carpet, this girl is looking good in such an effortless way. Say it aint so

Just in case you were missing out on your weekly dose of trashy North American tabloids. Bachelorette winning tiny swim-trunk wearing Ed has been caught cheating not once but twice on his new tv-show fiance Jillian. Gasp. The best part of this story? - The alleged text he sent to one of the ladies he was romancing that encouraged her to come over for a midnight rendezvous and ... "bring beer and condoms."

Is it really lame that I have considered ordering one of these?? Especially when this is the infomercial. This might just be the reason i've been looking for to call and activate my new credit card.

Style Stalker: The Bachelorette

The re-run wasteland that is May-September provides an excellent excuse to become (casually) addicted to really really bad summer reality television. Whether they're dancing, modeling, singing or just looking for love the crazy characters of reality tv provide enough drama to get me through those long summer nights.

This year's resident Bachelorette is Vancouver native and Bachelor reject (ouch) Jillian Harris. Dubbed by CityTV as "Canada's Sweetheart" (not to be confused with this obscure CBC docudrama from 1985) Jillian is faced with the incredibly difficult task of making out with lots of different suitors while working on her tan and jet-setting around the world. And while the men have been rather dull (with the exception of Wes the evil country singing cowboy and Tanner the awkward foot festish guy) it's been Jillian's wardrobe that has kept me tuning in for two hours every monday night (yes i need to get a life).

I've been coveting (and copying) Jillian's cute and casual clothing throughout the series. From her many TNA hoodies, silky wilfred tops and variety of plaid ensembles its no secret that she's a fan of can-con in her wardrobe. Also not so secret...the tons of free swag she was given by Aritzia before going on the show. And while we might not all be lucky enough to have wardobe makeover funded by ABC, at least many of her clothing options are affordable and accessible (ie: Aritzia, XXI and French Connection) for us non reality tv stars.

And so, even if you're not a fan of scripted reality showmance Jillian's wardrobe might be enough of a reason to tune in to the Bachelorette this season. If you don't have time to stalk her style these helpful blogs here and here have tracked down many items already...which makes me feel a lot less creepy about obessing over her outfits.
